Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight's Weekend Dimsum Buffet
Good news my awesome foodie friends! Crystal Jade Shanghai in Greenhills, San Juan is offering a Dimsum Buffet for only P488 + service charge, and I was lucky enough to be invited to try it out! Hence, I'll be sharing with you my buffet experience, and give you some info about it including the place as well.
About Crystal Jade
Crystal Jade opened up in Greenhills some time in 2010, and eversince it started to provide quality Chinese (particularly Shanghai) delights, foodies started to take notice. Soon enough, the restaurant began to be ultra-famous for its Xiao Long Bao, a delicate steamed dish that has a surprise soupy treat inside.
About the Buffet
Although Crystal Jade calls it as a buffet, it is technically not such, since you'll not find any buffet tables in there for the dimsum. Instead, you'll be given the freedom to order as many dishes as you can consume that are on the list. In short, it is more apt to call it "Eat all You Can Dimsum", but then again, it doesn't sound so fab, so we might as well go with the "Buffet".
Anyway, this setup reminded me of Genji-M in Kalayaan, Makati that offers unlimited or eat all you can sushi and/or sashimi.
Promo Specifics
The price of the buffet is P488, exclusive of the service charge, so roughly in the final bill you'll pay up about P532. Also, you need to take note that the promo is available only from 6:00 to 9:30 pm from Monday to Friday!
Similar with most of the buffet places, there is a No Sharing, No Leftover, No Takeout policy, and they are strict about it especially when it comes to leftovers. Otherwise, you'll have to pay for the ala carte price of the dish which you have any leftover. Hence, my advise is to order moderately and in intervals.
Alright, I've said enough already, so let me now share with you the dishes that you may have for the buffet.
There are fifteen (15) dishes to choose from for this Dimsum Buffet which include an appetizer, congee, noodle and the dimsum!
The good thing about the Cold Cucumber was its light and refreshing taste preparatory for the buffet. On the other had, the Congee with Salted Pork & Preserved Egg was really fascinating with its simple yet suave taste. The rice used was fine making the texture of the congee enjoyable, and the salted pork & preserved egg just added a natural zest to the congee!
For me, you'll know when a congee is made well when it can stand alone without any condiments.
If you are a noodle person, you will most likely enjoy this uncommon dish called Noodle with Spring Onion Oil! It had a wonderful aroma and comforting taste that you want to cuddle up with the bowl. You may try it with or without the soup, and I prefer the latter because I can focus more on the tastiness of the noodle.
Aside from the good quality and taste of the dumpling itself, what made this dish really fascinating was the Hot Chili Sauce that gave it a character (i.e. enjoyable kick).
I believe that this is one of the best Xiao Long Bao I've ever tasted so far because of how it was masterfully done. It offered amazing and potent flavors that danced in my mouth as the soup inside the dumpling burst inside.
I thought I just found the best Siomai in Lucky Rainbow Restaurant in Binondo, and I didn't expect that it will be bumped off immediately when I got to try the siomai here in Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight.
What made me declare this as the new best was the richness of the taste which can be likened to that of the Lucky Rainbow; however, this was able to take it further by the incredible fullness yet tenderness of the meat matched with an added flavor from the Crab Roe.
This Steamed Vegetable Dumpling had a very potent veggy taste highlighted by a sharp flavor that resembles wasabi. Although you may need to adjust your palate to accommodate what this can offer, I really loved the adventure I experienced eating this!
The Minced Pork Dumpling was somehow similar with the Beijing Pork Dumpling but only has a vegetable hint because of the string bean.
This Shanghai Siopao was really amazing with the tasty meaty core; however, since the bun itself was considerably thick, I would have appreciated this siopao more if the meat filling of the Pork Buns was more generous.
Perhaps, I couldn't just help myself but compare this with the Shanghai Fried Siopao of Ongpin, Binondo.
Here are other dishes you may avail of under the promo:
No photos but still included in the buffet: Pan-fried Carrot Cake with Dried Shrimp & Preserved Meat and Flour Roll with Condensed Milk
This dish was interesting with its asado-like flavor - sweet, salty and savory all at the same time! This is my second favorite among the available additional dishes for the Plus option.
Here are the other options for your one hot dish:
There you go my foodie friends! I hope you found this blog post insightful and drool-worthy! Anyway, let me share these photos with you before I end.

Give your own rating to Crystal Jade!
Generally, I found the buffet really interesting and to some extent sulit especially if you really are a dimsum person! The quality here is definitely top-notch and not to mention fresh, although a few of the dishes we tried had a slightly above satisfactory taste. However, what you need to keep an eye for are the Xiao Long Bao, Siomai, Noodle with Spring Onion Oil and Dumpling with Chili Oil.
