Edsa Shangri-La's Heat Buffet Goes Mad For Wagyu for 2016
Edsa Shangri-La's Heat Restaurant is jump-starting this year by launching its Mad For Wagyu special! Every Saturday night of the week, you have the opportunity to dine at one of the finest places in Manila. Plus, you'll get a taste of the all-meaty and all-juicy Wagyu beef.
Now, I'm very much thankful for 2015 because I was given the opportunity to be one of the first ones to try the Mad For Wagyu buffet. All thanks to the KTG group and of course Heat for making this night the yummiest I had for 2015.
Here in this blog post I will be sharing more about the Mad For Wagyu special and the restaurant itself, since it was my first time to dine there.
The interior of Heat Buffet has this air of sophistication while retaining the coziness with the dim lighting. Also, the is a lot of breathable space across the dining area adding more comfort in the air.
The Appetizers
There are a great range of appetizers to choose from in the spread, but I'll be providing you with a preview of some of what you may have there while giving focus to what's different during the Mad For Wagyu night.
As a "certified" cheese lover, I couldn't help but skip this section of the buffet. You may choose among 5 variants here: Taleggio, Pecorino, Edam, Asagio and/or Cheddar. Of course, no one will stop you from tasting all of 'em.
One of the prime highlights of the night was the Wagyu Beef Jerky. Everybody indeed got extremely WILD over this sweet, crispy and savory starter! You won't be finding this on the buffet table, but rather, there will be some waitstaff going around carrying this one.
Another dish that caught my attention was this Wagyu Beef Tartare. If you don't know what it is, like I did the first time I saw it, this tartare is a dish that originated from Europe (well, hopefully, I remembered the answer of the chef correctly). It combines ground raw meat with pickles, onions and other spices. It is then topped with softly boiled quail eggs. It is really something that you need to try!
If you go around the buffet spread, you'll encounter other innovations for the Wagyu as well as meat in general.
Although the night is dedicated for Wagyu, nothing will stop you to go for your traditional Japanese favorites such as sashimi, sushi and other Japanese appetizers.
Although these are my personal favorites, I tried restraining myself by just getting the salmon and tuna sashimi. I wanted to save more space for the Wagyu Tomahawk, which you will be learning more about in a short while.
If you are feeling a little chilly, you may want to start the night off with some soup or noodles. I decided to skip this section because again, I wanted to save space for those things that I found intriguing.
It is important to note that the beverages are not inclusive of the buffet rate, but you may have access to this beverage section for P200 nett while the draft beer is at P700 nett.
The Taco Station is also upgraded during Mad For Wagyu nights. Instead of the usual ordinary beef, they'll be using some Wagyu Minced Meat, to make the tacos more enjoyable!
This section is where you may find the Chinese delights, and it had an upgrade too during this special night.
Now, for this section, what you need to look forward to is the Wagyu Xiao Long Bao. It's nothing but GOLD. The meat had this great tenderness which is protected by a delicate wrapping. It is best when you drizzle some chili-garlic oil on top. It's a bomb!
Main Course
The next part we will explore is the Grilling Station where you can have your seafood delights cooked (i.e. buttered).
Among the catch, you can find there some lobsters, mussels and shrimps.
At some point, with all the Wagyu around, your palate will be missing some seafood, and the people of Heat Restaurant understands this. Hence, you can freely have a trip in this section and have some fresh seafood!
Now, this part of the buffet spread is where you can find both the roast beef and the Wagyu Tomahawk, nothing but the star of the evening.
I was totally had my eye on the Wagyu, that I just ended up ignoring the roast beef.Well, you couldn't blame me for that. Just check out the beauty of this incredible steak!
Oh my, you will really find the overwhelming softness and tenderness of the Wagyu beef mystically captivating. Just a small bites puts me up there in cloud 9, and I'm not exaggerating. My fellow foodies may attest to that. It really had that authentic marbling that you can actually feel in your mouth.
Now, while there is a sauce specially designed for the Wagyu Tomahawk, there are more than 20 others from which you may select your sauce. My favorites were the Mint Jelly and the BBQ Sauce.
Desserts
I was already too full by the time I ended up my main course, but I still want to show some of what you may find here.
Well, these are just some of the desserts you can find, but there are others such as the taho, halo-halo, chocolate fondue and others.
While you may think that the Desserts Station can't keep up with the Mad For Wagyu night, well you're wrong. Just check out this crepe station where they are having the Wagyu-inspired Crepes! Feel free to have it customized as well.
Now, that wraps up this blog post on this special and wonderful night. Thanks for dropping by, and I hope you subscribe here in this blog to get the latest updates.
Catch the Mad For Wagyu buffet for only P2,415 nett every Saturday night for the entire 2016. At this point, you still have about 52 chances of treating yourself to a wonderful night of wagyu. By the end of the night, you'll probably have sweet dreams and wake up the next day with an extreme hangover from getting mad over the wagyu!
