How to Cook Korean Grilled Pork Belly or Samgyeopsal at Home
How to Cook Samgyeopsal at Home with A-Not-So-Popular Kid |
Samgyeopsal is a famous Korean dish which is particularly grilled pork belly. Upon grilling, the pork belly is wrapped by vegetable leaves such as lettuce. Then, you'll dip it in either Sesame Oil or soybean paste, but no one is preventing you to dip it in both. So, there!
Don't want to cook it yourself? Check out some of the Korean restaurants near you that offer this dish:
- Woo Galbi Korean Restaurant (Ala Carte) || EDSA Shangri-La Mall, Mandalyong City
- Matgalne (Unlimited Buffet) || Jupiter Street, Makati City
- Samgyupsalamat (Ala Carte or Buffet) || Taft Avenue (near De La Salle University)
Preparing all the necessary ingredients!
First off, let's get all the stuff for the Samgyeopsal ready!
- Pork Belly or Sukiyaki (as an alternative)
- Salt and Pepper (if you want your Samgyeopsal to be the regular one with no barbecue marinate)
- Korean Barbecue Sauce (as a marinate, if you want your Samgyeopsal to be sweet and tasty)
- Grilling Pan or Electronic Grilling Equipment
- Sauces
In our case, we opted for the marinated version of the Samgyeopsal and used Ottogi's Korean BBQ Sauce. I really like this sauce because of its sweetness and fruity pineapple taste.
Korean Barbecue Sauce - also good for marinating! |
We bought this one in a Korean Store near us in Ongpin Street, Binondo, so I'm guessing you'll find this in most of Korean market/store near you!
Now that you have the sauce, all you have to do next is to marinate the pork belly preferably overnight, so that the sauce will really seep into the meat fibers.
