No matter how cliche it is, time really flies so fast. I can't even believe how July seemed to just pass by hardly noticeable. Perhaps this was because I dedicated the entire in preparation for the board exam, but anyway, my actual point is
Vikings will now replace some of the
American Cuisine launched last month (i.e. July) to
give way for the latest Southeast Asian Collection!

Vikings - SM North Edsa Branch
It was my first time to visit this particular branch of Vikings here in SM North Edsa, so I took some photos for your reference and possible comparison with other branches. As opposed to the branch in SM Megamall, this one
feels more spacious because of a higher ceiling. Well, this was just a personal observation. However, I feel more comfortable with the dispersed buffet set-up of the former, since here in North Edsa branch, it's
shaped like a U, so people tend to queue up more.

The cozy interior of Vikings in SM North Edsa |
Since there are similarities with what's offered in various branches of Viking, I'll just refer you to my previous
blog post on Vikings in SM Megamall. You'll find in that post a more extensive review of the dishes available. Of course, there are also quite a number of differences, but I believe that's the beauty in Vikings. Each branch has something unique to offer. For example, I appreciated how the kebabs and other similar dishes are presented here in SM North Edsa branch.

Extended Menu of American Cuisine on Weekends
Foodie friends, let me now share with you the new additions for the month of August in this particular branch of Vikings. However, please take note that these additions are
only available during weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
Note: The Southeast Asian Cuisine is the theme for all the Vikings restaurants in this month of August. However, each branch is given the freedom to interpret and innovate on its dishes. Hence, you can expect different offerings in each branch.
Naan Bread with Vegetable Curry (Mixed Cuisine)
|
Naan Bread with Vegetable Curry |
Although I'm not a curry person, I was able to appreciate this dish because of the
lightness of the curry. Plus, the parmesan infusion of the naan bread became a shield to balance the curry flavor.
Tauhu Lenbut Kukus - Steamed Tofu with Ground Chicken (Malaysian)
|
Tokwa Style Steamed Tofu with Ground Chicken of Vikings |
This dish is something I enjoyed because of the
evenness of the flavors (savory and subtly spicy). Also, the tokwa style of the tofu (i.e. does not have the silky texture but rather the rougher one) gave me something to peacefully chew on.
Papad Salad (Mixed - Thailand and Indian)
|
The refreshing Papad Salad of Vikings |
This dish featured a refreshing blend of veggies with a buoyant taste of coriander.
Bak Kut Teh (Pork Ribs Soup) (Singaporean)
|
The spicy and salty Bak Kut Teh soup |
This soup dish offered a wide range of complex flavors, which I'm not much acquainted with. There was a medicinal herby taste mixed with sharp saltiness and spiciness. Those with low tolerance for spiciness should avoid this dish.
Hainanese Chicken Rice || Hainanese Chicken || Chili Crabs (Singaporean)
|
The Hainanese Chicken and Rice with Chili Crabs of Vikings SM North Edsa |
Although I've tasted better Hainanese Chicken in other restaurants (such as that of
Wee Nam Kee), this chicken was considerably tender and light. What I found highly likable was how complementary the rice was with the chicken (although some of the fellow bloggers I was with may not agree with). The crabs on the other hand was really fresh with its sweet-chili sauce.
Nasi Goreng || Singaporean Noodles || Moo Yang (Pork BBQ) (Mixed Cuisine)
|
Southeast Asian Cuisine in Vikings |
This second batch of dishes was more interesting especially with the Moo Yang (Pork BBQ) which I found really sweet and surprisingly tender. It can be likened with the Chinese Pork Asado, but in this one you'll enjoy the honey and soy blend of flavors. Another interesting dish was the Singaporean Noodles which had a refreshing zest of herbs, coconut milk and lime.
Singaporean Honey Sesame Chicken || Batu Maung (Chicken and Beef Satay) (Mixed Cuisine)

The Phenomenal Satay and Grilled Honey Chicken of Vikings SM North Edsa |
Alright, let us pause for a while to give honor to this
phenomenal dish ever served!
I'm not kidding guys, this was really the finest satay and grilled honey chicken I've tasted in my life particularly because of their tenderness and juiciness. However, what
made them really dashingly memorable were the sauces (i.e.
Honey Garlic, Peanut Sauce and Garlic Sambal) that gave extraordinary vibrant flavors! These are definite must-trys!

Carrot Halwa || Cendol || Cheng Tn (Pandan Gelatin w/ Fruits) || Kacang (Mixed Cuisine)

The interesting yet familiar desserts for the Southeast Asian additions in Vikings |
Now here are some of the desserts that will be added to the wide buffet selection during weekends on Vikings (for the month of August). These are familiar desserts because somehow we have our own version of these dishes. Anyway, I'd like to
give emphasis to the Carrot Halwa because of its goodness and right level of sweetness, and to the
Kacang which is a dessert made from green mung beans topped with mildly sweet blend of coconut milk, condensed milk and cream. The latter will really catch you in surprise!
Alright, with the newest collection of Southeast Asian cuisine in Vikings, your dining experience will now be more exciting in Vikings!
Fellow foodies, I really fell in love with the Honey Chicken and the Satay (with their corresponding sauces), so if you decide to dine here in this branch, you should definitely look for these amazing dishes!
