Cafe de Coral (大家樂) Restaurant in Hong Kong

Cafe de Coral Restaurant in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

Cafe de Coral is a restaurant that you may find in various districts in Hong Kong. In our entire trip alone, we saw about 3 branches of this restaurant. Although it is not much of a must-try according to the travel blogs/sites we checked out, we still decided to drop by and try the food there.

The branch we visited was the one near Yesinn Hostel (read more) which was the place where we stayed during our entire stay in Hong Kong. It only took us about 4 minutes to get there.

Interior of Cafe de Coral Restaurant in Hong Kong

Cafe de Coral with its interior looks very much typical and casual, which really suggest that this may be considered as a "fast food". In fact, I caught that vibe when we got there.

The menu is posted on this wall, and the dishes are already labeled for your convenience. You just need to say the code to the cashier, and she'll punch them in. Afterwards, you'll be given the receipt which will also act as your claiming stub. You just need to wait for about 5 to 7 minutes and your order will be ready.

Plain National Farm Chicken w/ Rice || HKD 40 or approx. P242
Inclusive of a tea/coffee/soft drink/iced green tea (low sugar)
Plain National Farm Chicken w/ Rice
Hainanese Chicken of Cafe de Coral

This dish tasted like your regular Hainanese Chicken. The meat had this light flavor, but reinforced by the sweet savory sauce poured on top.

New Zealand Sirloin Steak w/ Baked Twisty Macaroni w/ Cheese || HKD55 or approx. P333
Inclusive of a soup of the day/coffee/tea/soft drink and bun w/ butter
New Zealand Sirloin Steak of Cafe de Coral

Although I would say that this dish is considerably sulit, I found the taste of the dish somewhere near satisfactory. Well, the mac and cheese was a bit bland for my taste, and the steak was somehow "ruined" by tenderizing it with perhaps baking soda. Well, maybe I just don't like it when the meat gets "rubbery tender" with this kind of technique. The taste, on the other hand, was good. This is why I still find this dish somehow satisfactory.

Alright! This now concludes my blog post on Cafe de Coral.

The food here in Cafe de Coral is regular with nothing much to look forward to. However, I must admit that trying it for the first time felt good, not because of the food but rather the experience of eating there. I guess Cafe de Coral is a place where you are not looking for much excitement for food but don't want to eat the traditional fast food (i.e. McDonald's, KFC, etc.). Well, this is just my quick personal insight. Feel free to share a piece of your mind by commenting below.
