Cafe Breton - All-Day Breakfast and Crepes in Greenbelt, Makati
When I first tried dining in Cafe Breton for desserts, I was not impressed at all. It even felt that the price of the crepes does not justify the quality and taste. This is why when my friends picked this place to have our lunch out in, I felt reluctant of going for it. However, it had been more than a year already, so I decided to give it another chance. Surprisingly, my experience turned out great, and it has now become one of my favorite places for all-day breakfast!
Cafe Breton is definitely not new to you, but it felt that way to me when I experienced a positive shift in my view on the restaurant. Now, despite the simplicity of the place as well as the interior, I still get that nice comfort from the homey feel of the restaurant. Being there inside made us feel at ease by being us, which is noisy and fun.
Alright, I will now spare you of my blabbering and proceed with the dishes we had. Let's begin with my most favorite dish as of the moment.
Egg Casserole || P175
2 eggs coddled in cream, drizzled with gruyere, topped with mushrooms sauteed in garlic on a bed of spinach, served with buttered toast strips
This dish may really be simple, but it was quite a surprise for my taste buds! There were varieties of flavors involved but everything condensed into uniform pleasurable touch on the palate. The highlight of course was when I experienced the subtle taste of the gruyere cheese.
Go-Fish (Open Face) || P225
Smoked salmon on a bed of scrambled eggs on whole wheat toast, topped with fresh cream, capers and fresh onion suvers
The taste of this dish was within expectations, but for something with smoked salmon, this was considerably "sulit" already. If you are in a mood for a some seafood touch, you may want to go for this one.
Galette Marrakech || P250
Whole spicy Moroccan beef sausage with egg, caramelized onions and tomato provencal
Hmmmm, there was something about this dish that was "nakaka-Galette". When I read the description, I expected something fancy looking, so I was caught off guard to see something this simple. Plus, the sausage was not as tender as we expected it to be. I don't know about you, but I'm not giving this any thumbs up.
Hearty Breakfast Plate || P240
Ham (or country bacon), 2 eggs, tomato provencal, buttered toast with a side salad
This Hearty Breakfast Place was nicely prepared, although you may argue that this is something you can "imitate" at home. Well, I may have to agree with you on that, so unless you can't have something like this at home, go for something else -- maybe Egg Casserole?
Now, for the desserts (which up to now, I'm still not a big fan of here in Cafe Breton), we had this customized crepe.
Customized Peanut Butter Crepe || P175.50
Crepe with banana, peanut butter and salted caramel ice cream
I might have chose the wrong combination because it was not as superb as I imagined it to be, but still I was able to enjoy it. By the way, if you know a special combination that I should try, I would really appreciate it if you can share it with us by commenting below.
Le Magnifique || P240
Banana, chocohazelnut spread, whipped cream and almonds drizzled with chocolate syrup
Although my view on Cafe Breton as a whole shifted positively, I still am not that impressed with the crepes of Cafe Breton. I'm not sure about this, but it felt like it was the crepe itself that I don't find much appealing. Well, maybe I am just not a fan of "soft and almost liquid-y crepe". Perhaps next time I can request for a "crispy toasted" one.
Cafe Breton - Overall Ratings and Summary
Note: Unshaded stars are equivalents of half-stars. The ratings apply solely to this dining experience.
Place ★★★☆
Taste ★★★☆
Service ★★★☆
Value for Money ★★★★
Budget: at least P300 for a personal light to moderate meal
Surprisingly, I found my lunch experience here in Cafe Breton impressive as a whole, but that's primarily attributable to the Egg Casserole. I really fell in love with it, and I'll be returning back to be reunited with it once more.
Again, I am still retaining my neutral to slightly negative view on the dessert crepes here. However, I'm going to experiment on it on my next visit, so my fingers are crossed!
