Yardstick Cafe - coffee, cold brew, waffles and chill
Yardstick has been a chill coffee place that I really wanted to blog about. It has a fantastic peaceful vibe, and the ambiance allows you to generate creative juice. Regrettably, I've been here twice already, and since I wasn't able to bring a good camera for both cases, I just let it pass and to not write about it.
Fortunately, I got to visit this place once again just a few weeks ago. All thanks to my quick thinking, I was able to suggest this place for our desserts right after celebrating my brother and sister's birthday in Romulo Cafe (read more). In this post, I'll be sharing about the ambiance, the drinks and also the waffles.
A creative nook tucked in Makati
What I personally love about Yardstick is the ambiance. It's light, welcoming and very conducive for unleashing your creative side. Perhaps it's all due to the open spaces and how the set-up looks like an art class. Yeah, it refreshes my childhood memories -- the years when I was still learning how to dabble with colors somewhere in Milelong.
Anyway, this place makes a great venue for you to finish writing your paper (or maybe even your book), reading a novel, drafting your life plans and all others that need mental/creativity prowess.
It was rainy during the time we visited, and this added more novelty to Yardstick as a "perfect" shelter from the rain. Since we were in a "creative" mood (again as an effect of the ambiance), we tried getting (hopefully) good photos. We thought that the rain will make a fantastic backdrop.
The collection of beverages here may seem to be "limited" at first glance, but when you examine the menu further, you'll notice that choices are massive -- enough to make us think for about 10 minutes on what to get.
Here in Yardstick, you can get a cup of coffee (hot or cold), cold brew, frappe/shakes and pastries (including waffles).
My younger brother ordered this Cold Brew Coffee No. 4 - Mocha (P190). The coffee taste was not as bold compared with what I tried in other coffee shops, but that worked to my advantage because normally I prefer it mild. Plus, the chocolate was rich allowing it to smoothly blend with the cold brew.
Since the taste is already considerably bland, I suggest that you drink straight up from the bottle.
For me and my mom, we ordered a Hot Chocolate (P160 - large). It came in this adorable and vibrant red cup, and the aroma was rich and fragrant. The taste was also rich, and it was just rightly sweet. Right at that moment, I knew that I found my "second best" hot chocolate. Starbucks still holds the first spot.
The Yardshake (P180) came in as a huge shocker for me. I didn't expect it to taste so bold and striking. I loved the creamy thick blend of sweetness and bitterness. It was also bound by a light taste of chocolate which made it even memorable. I highly recommend this for those with prominent sweet tooth!
My brother got a little playful with his drink, so before slurping it down, he made art using the cocoa powder sprinkled over the shake. See, this is really the magic of the place. It allowed us to be playful and free!
The waffles here in Yardstick Cafe are something worth looking forward to! In fact, I never fail having one during my past visits here in the cafe.
For the night, we ordered Salted Caramel Waffle (P230) which comes with two scoops of ice cream sitting on top of the crisp and tasty bed of comforting waffles. I have no other words for these. Never fails to brighten me and my taste buds up!
For me, the waffles here are instant "classics"!
It was a night of wonderful conversation here in Yardstick, and I won't stop raving about how amazed I am with the interior of the place. If only I lived nearer this shop, you'll definitely see me in here frequently! Two-thumbs up and highly recommended!

Yardstick Cafe/Coffee is one of those places that I'll constantly rave about. I completely fell in love with its ambiance, and the beverages here are amazing! Servers are all warm and friendly, and the prices are reasonable considering all of what was mentioned. I suggest that you go for a Yardshake, if you want something cold, otherwise, you may want to get a Hot Chocolate. Of course, order a waffle to go with your drinks. Super recommended!
