Golden Tripod's Authentic Chinese Dumplings in UN Square
My dad decided to treat me and my younger brother dinner, since there wasn’t any food at home. And as usual, this brought in more difficulty as we didn't know where. A few minutes passed, and we all agreed to eat in Bonchon.
As we reached the place (i.e. UN Square), we were going straight for Bonchon until we saw some posters about this new dumpling place called Golden Tripod, which is probably just 2 stores away from Bonchon. Since I was craving for something less “unhealthy” that night (i.e. dimsum in particular), I was easily swayed.
After seconds of pondering, I then started convincing my dad and my brother to settle down here in this new Chinese restaurant, which we eventually did.
Authenticity you can smell
Once we entered the place, the smell of broth and spices immediately hit us. Something in the smell hinted authenticity, which made me more curious about the dishes here. When we sat down, I looked around and find the interior amusing. It was simple and casual, yet it was invitingly comfortable. Maybe it’s because there is ample free spaces that make the interior look relaxing on the eyes.
The menu here in Golden Tripod is considerably lean yet offers sufficient variety. They offer different kinds of dumpling, some noodles, specialty dishes and rice meals. For the night, my brother chose noodles, while me and my dad decided to share an asado rice meal. We also ordered 12 pieces of dumplings on the side.
The Asado Rice Meal (P189) was supposedly good for 2, as advertised in the menu. While this may hold true for some, it may not always be the case. In fact, in my approximation, it’s only good for 1.5. And if you are hungry, that number will further drop to 1.
Still, I found the asado tasty, and the high quality rice complimented the savory goodness of the meat. My only suggestion is for them to serve a separate sauce, to quench the “dryness” of the dish. I think adding more sauce will raise the satisfaction from this dish even more.
Last but not the least was the Asado Noodles (P189). Honestly, the “good for 2” description is more fitting for this dish than the Asado Rice Meal. The noodles came with this huge bowl, and soup was filled up to the brim. There were also generous serving of the asado which made this dish “sulit”. The broth in itself was also tasty marked by deep-meaty flavor with a garlicky finish. This is something I would be happy to indulge myself again with for our next visit.
