Thai BBQ's Authentic Flavors and Dishes in Glorietta, Makati
Years ago, three guys who were working in SGV (who also happen to be previously block mates in college) pledged to stay at least two years in the firm. This was made to allow us to “share the suffering together”. The deal was then sealed when we agreed on imposing a penalty of P10,000 should any of us break the pledge.
(photo above was taken in 2015 in Tokyo Tonteki)
A year after from the day of pledge, we learned that one of us submitted his resignation letter. That was Troy. He broke the code. The consequence? Well, he needed to treat us lunch/dinner each time we meet together to cover for the P10,000 penalty.
Fast forward to this night, the three of us met again for Troy’s last libre to finish off the penalty from the broken code. The chosen restaurant was Thai BBQ in Glorietta 4.
Also, as trivia all three of us are no longer working in SGV. Troy lasted a year. I lasted about 3.5, while Myles (who said that he’ll be the first to leave) lasted a little above 4 years.
The night was well spent catching up with each other’s latest life events. We didn’t have much time to reminisce college memories, because current updates already took most of the time. It was a great night — fantastic conversations over the cozy ambiance of Thai BBQ.
For the dishes, we only got three. One appetizer, and two main dishes. Thanks to Zomato Gold, we got one complimentary dish. By the way, you can get a Zomato Gold membership at 20% by using the promo code ANOTSOP. The membership will allow you to have 1 complimentary dish when you dine here as well as in other 100+ participating restaurants.
The Spring Roll (P280) was nicely done with its definitive crispiness with generous fresh veggies and some meat inside. It came with a sweet and sour dip along with a spicy vinegar. Refreshing starter.
For the main dish, we had the Gaiyang BBQ Chicken (P620) which was nicely prepared. It may not be as “Thai” as I expected, but it was satisfying with its juiciness and sweet savory sauce that coated the chicken. Still, I believe that there are better dishes to explore.
This was Myles's pick, so yeah. Tsk tsk.
The Masaman Beef Curry (P580) seemed to be a disappointing choice with the lack of zest in its visuals, but taste-wise it was awesome. It featured this tamed curry flavor that mixed well with the creamy and semi-sweet sauce. The beef’s tenderness made the overall dish dreamy. Excellent!
This dish may be pricey, so you may want to allot more budget when you dine here.
On a separate occasion I was able to try the Phad Thai (P420) and Phad See Eyu (P380), both are highly recommended noodle dishes. For the night, we didn't have anything else aside from the dishes showed.
The rest of the night was filled with stories, future plans and anything in between. Myles was also generous (finally), and gave us both socks from Iconic. Anyway, it just felt really warm and fuzzy being reunited with these two, and this night is definitely worth "immortalizing".

Thai BBQ is very much well-deserved of its Thai Select recognition. It’s one of the few Thai restaurants which are given this seal of “authenticity”. Through this second experience, I was able to understand why it was able to bag such “badge”. Though we were able to have a few dishes that night, I was able to try out the Phad Thai and Phad See Eyu on a different date, and they were impressive.
