How to use this tool?
- The first one you need to input in the tool is whether your monthly basic pay is fixed or changing. (choose from Yes/No dropdown)
- If you select yes (i.e. your basic pay is fixed), indicate the amount in the grey space provided. Also, change the start and/or end date, whenever applicable, if you were employed in between the year, and/or whether you plan to leave prior to end of December.
- If you select no (i.e. your basic pay changes each month), you will need to indicate your basic pay on each applicable month.
- We use the term 'basic pay' because this serves as the basis of the 13th month pay. Other allowances, be it taxable or not, are not to be included.
- Once all the necessary inputs are typed into the tool, it shall provide your (a) estimated 13th month pay, (b) estimated withholding taxes, and (3) estimated net13th month pay.
FAQs
Q: What can possibly explain any discrepancies between my actual 13th month vs the estimate from the tool?
There might have been deductions from your basic pay (e.g. undertime, leave without pay, excessive vacation/sick leaves). Also, if you have other taxable income that might have increased you to a higher bracket, that will impact your net 13th month pay. Also, if you happen to have a mid-year bonus and/or any other bonuses, those will consume your allowable non-taxable 13th month pay, and therefore larger portion of your net pay will be taxed.
Q: What should I do if there are discrepancies?
Ask your HR about it, and seek for a possible breakdown of how your 13th month pay was computed.
